Italian restaurants, sub shops, calzone counters and Italian delis sit next to the pizzerias on this site because most of them bake pizza too, often from the same dough. Full-service Italian restaurants take reservations for dinner, add a tip line for table service (15-20% is customary) and usually run a cheaper lunch menu on weekdays. Sub and sandwich shops are counter-order and quick, with sizes by the inch or in half and whole lengths. Calzones and strombolis are priced like a medium pizza and are large enough to share. Italian delis and bakeries sell by weight and by the piece, and many close mid-afternoon.
Hours are published for 6 days a week. The most common schedule is 10 amβ5 pm. It is closed on Tuesday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Masse's Pastries at (510) 649-1004; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. Its website is massespastries.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.
Customers rate it 4.5 out of 5 on Google across 234 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded italian delis & bakeries in Berkeley.
Berkeley is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Berkeley is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

The best place for cakes and pastries! We were tired of having the same chocolate hazelnut raspberry cake from another place, so we decided to explore the neighborhood and came across this hidden gem! I honestly canβt believe we missed this place all these years. Now, every celebration feels incomplete without a cake from here! Weβve even introduced this place to our friends, and they love it too. β€οΈ The cakes arenβt overly sweet, which is exactly how we like them. The mango mousse and guava cheesecake are absolutely unbelievable! Definitely one of our favorite finds!

The cakes are good but they need to update their hours. I put in a formal request on Google. You cannot say you are open until 5 pm and then say cake pickup is only until 4 pm. I never would have chosen this bakery as itβs difficult to accommodate such an early time with work and child pickups. Edit: Updating this review. After I rushed to get to the bakery on time and missed my daughters pickup, the owner yelled at me for 5 minutes for not understanding pick up is until 4 pm, even though it says they are open until 5 pm. She was super condescending and rude. The cakes are fine but will be taking my business elsewhere, plenty of amazing cake shops in east bay!

I have been coming to Masse's Pastries since it opened. I got my wedding cake here in 1997. I love coming here because it feels like I'm in a European bakery. I come here to enjoy the delicious coffee, cookies, croissants or one one the many cute desserts. Masse's is truly a neighbor gem.

Yum. Absolutely delicious croissant! Crispy and flaky on the outside, moist and soft on the inside. Will 100% come back for more!

Desserts: 3/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 3/5 Portion to Price: 3/5 Overall: Standard fare. The extended review... Desserts: 3/5 - Got a few desserts to share. One passion fruit and one lemon curd. Both were pretty standard fare for taste. Service: 4/5 - Friendly staff who explained what everything was since there wasn't any signage. Ambiance: 3/5 - A few indoor and outdoor seats to eat in. Portion to Price: 3/5 - Pretty standard fare for pastry pricing.

Oh what a delight these cakes are. The mango mousse and guava cheesecakes are to die for. Whenever my wife and I are in the Bay area it's a non negotiable to stop in.

best patisserie ever had :) trying one morning bun and an almond meringue, the pastry had extravagantly good layers and the cookie is flavored so rich and smoothly! the owner lady and the chef are so warm and nice and i got a piece of her favorite cookie! Very cozy place with good music. Definitely worth another visit

I finally got a chance to try cakes from Masse's Pastries. When I get there and I don't see the names of the cakes, I asked the staff what they are. Just hearing the long description of the cakes how they are composed, I already know that they will be awesome. And of course, I am not disappointed. Both "apple" and "pear" (my simple names) are very sophisticated. As you cut through, you see the layers of cakes, fruit, mousse, cream, cheese, even decorative shell, gel, and chocolate maple leafs are amazing. It is such a dedication that you feel like your money is simply worth just for the efforts they put into, yes, a piece of cake. PS: I tried the walnut orange muffin and they are amazing as well. Packed with walnuts and right touch of orange flavor, garnished with gel-coated orange!
